About the attorney
Rudyard “Jake” Jewell-Cohen
Everyone calls me Jake. I'm a plaintiff-side trial attorney, and I represent people — never insurance companies.
Why I do this work
Insurance companies have professionals working on their side of your claim from the moment the crash is reported. My job is to make sure you have one too — and that you know which attorney is responsible for your case.
I grew up in Venice Beach and worked full-time from the age of sixteen — restaurants, hospitality, personal training — to put myself through school. I know what it means when an injury takes away your ability to earn. That's the perspective I bring to every case: my clients aren't files, they're people whose lives got interrupted by someone else's carelessness.
Today I'm a Senior Associate and first-chair trial lawyer at Bisnar Chase Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP, litigating catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases — motor vehicle collisions, defective products, dangerous properties, and animal attacks — against major insurers and corporate defendants.
How I practice
Three commitments, and you can hold me to them:
- A trial attorney reads it. I review every submission myself.
- You get the truth. Including the case value conversation, the lien conversation, and the timeline conversation — early, in plain English.
- You get trial-ready work. I'm a graduate of the Gerry Spence Trial Method at Thunderhead Ranch, and every case is built to be tried. That's what makes insurers pay attention during settlement talks.

Publications
My article on litigating slip-and-fall cases against Costco — the defense traps, and how to build the case from day one to survive them — was published in CAALA's Advocate magazine (October 2023). It's the same philosophy you'll see on this site: know the defendant's playbook, and prepare from the outset as if trial is coming.
